(JAMESTOWN TOWNSHIP) – A suspect has been arrested in connection with a break in at a residence in rural Jamestown Township.

Steuben County Chief Deputy Michael Meeks says on Wednesday at 2 PM, deputies were called to a residence in the 100 block of Lane 305 Jimmerson Lake on a report of a burglary.

The victim told Steuben County 911 that he had just returned from being out for the day and found someone had entered the home. Several items were found to be missing including a large quantity of valuable coins and several firearms. Sheriff's detectives were called to assist in the investigation and quickly began gathering evidence and following leads.

Meeks says within 24 hours, detectives were able to identify a witness and a suspect. Further investigation led to a search warrant for a residence in Allen County. At 6 AM Friday, Steuben County Sheriff’s Detectives executed the search warrant on a residence in the 4200 block of Meridith Drive in Fort Wayne.

Detectives were assisted in the execution of the search warrant by the Steuben County Sheriff's SRT Team, the Allen County Sheriff's SWAT Team, and the Auburn Police ERT Team. The search yielded a portion of the property allegedly stolen from the Steuben County residence including valuable coins and some of the firearms.

Police say 37 year old William Roy Darnell Britt of Fort Wayne was located inside the residence and taken into custody. He was transported back to Steuben County and booked into the jail on preliminary charges of Residential Burglary while Armed with a Firearm, and Possession of a Firearm by Serious Violent Felon, which are both felonies.

Britt is being held on a $60,000 bond. The case still remains under investigation and additional charges may be sought in Allen County in connection with suspected drug related items that were also found inside the Fort Wayne residence.
