(GARRETT) - A Garrett High School staff member has been removed from campus and is facing termination after bringing a personal handgun into the school.
Garrett-Keyser-Butler Community Schools Superintendent Dan Durrwachter notified families in a message Tuesday, saying the incident happened Monday at Garrett High School.
According to the letter, a school resource officer quickly secured the firearm and escorted the staff member off campus. No injuries were reported.
Because of Indiana law, the employee was placed on administrative leave while the district moves forward with terminating their employment.
School officials say they are working with law enforcement as the investigation continues.
Durrwachter acknowledged the concern the situation may cause for families and directed any questions to the district's central office.
