(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana's unemployment rate stood at 3.3 percent in January as the state entered 2026, according to the latest Labor Market Review.
That's lower than the national unemployment rate of 4.4 percent.
State data shows Indiana's labor force totaled more than 3.5 million people, with a labor force participation rate of 63.5 percent--also higher than the national average.
Private sector employment increased by about 10,200 jobs over the month, with gains in several industries, including professional and business services, construction, education and health services, and trade and transportation.
Officials also report more than 85,000 open job postings across the state at the end of January, compared to about 27,000 ongoing unemployment claims.
The Labor Market Review is released monthly by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development to track employment trends and economic conditions statewide.
